Fishing methods

You will need a rather heavy equipment, a 9-10 foot rod, a strong reel holding a lot of line (strength min. 10 kg). Reels most frequently used today is Ambassadeur 6000/7000 or big open spinning-reels.

Weight of tackle is about 30-60 grams depending on current. Tackle, tube fly, shrimp and worm is most commonly used. Tube fly, shrimp and worm are tackled with a weight approx. 1 meter ahead of bait. Line attached to weight must break before main line.

Fly-fishing (especially Yellow zone) is performed by using a two-handed rod, class 10-12. Rods measuring 14, 15 and 16 foot are mostly used. As fish stands pretty close to another in this area, it is important to get the salmon or trout to rise to the fly and not the opposite. Because of this fast sinking lines are forbidden. Approved lines are floating to medium sinking lines. Fly-fishing is only test-fishing on Yellow zone.

Most of the well known flies usually works fine but darker flies like "Hairy Mary" works excellent. Myself I usually use a "Jock Scott" or a "Thunder and Lightning" which is two of my personal favorites and has proved themselves to work fine in Göta Älv.

Happy fishing.
